As a newly pregnant Mom, you have just entered the world of "baby-information overload," especially when it comes to safety-related info for the baby you are about to bring into the world. There is so much 'scary' information out there that it can make you paranoid that every toy, piece of bedding, baby furniture piece, and decor will no doubt be harmful. The fact is that several key baby items, including cribs, are regulated by the CPSC and many are further certified by the JPMA to give you a certain level of confidence. However, it is good to have this information to ensure that the decisions you are making are safe for your baby.

In the last several years, the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) has revolutionized crib manufacturing and use to some of the highest safety standards in the world. Perhaps the biggest influential move began with the New Crib Standard on June 28th, 2011, derived from the massive recall of over 7 million drop-side cribs in 2007. Now, the New Crib Standard prohibits the manufacturing or sale of traditional drop-side rail cribs, as well as other guidelines for stronger crib slats and mattress supports, improvement of hardware quality and more rigorous testing.
