QUESTION: Is this crib made of solid wood, or does the construction utilize MDF and/or veneers? by Dorothy P 12/20/2012
ANSWER: Ah yes, I hear pine is exceptionally soft. Funny you should mention it because I'm also looking at a Land of Nod crib as well as a solid walnut one...just trying to see if I can get away with not spending $800 on a crib :-). Thanks, ladies, for your input! by Dorothy P 1/1/2013
ANSWER: I have this crib in my childcare. This crib is used daily. The kids leave teeth marks on this crib and it dings really easily. No I would not buy this crib again. The wood is soft an the matching changing table I bought with it has fallen apart many times. If you have a little more money I would look into Land of Nod they other stuff like tables and chairs storage bins have held up really well. No the wood is good on the crib but it does use fiber board on the drawer and it really can not take much in the drawers. They will fall apart. by Denise H 1/1/2013
ANSWER: It is stained pine. It is a wonderful crib and I am very happy with the purchase. 2.5 years later my child is sleeping in the toddler bed. It stores a good amount, but I removed the drawer so that I could put larger storage bins underneath, utilizing the space a little better. My biggest caution is to protect that rails when teething is about to commence. I didn't get to that as quickly as I had intended [my son started teething early] and the rails have the teethmarks to prove it... by K G 12/31/2012

ANSWER: You really don't need a skirt with this crib because the base is enclosed. I did use the skirt when the mattress was at it's highest when my baby was just born. Once you drop the mattress low there really is no room for it. by E L 6/7/2012
ANSWER: You can use a skirt but it is definitely not needed. A skirt basically only hides the top opening of the storage drawer on the bottom if the height of the mattress is set at the higher height. Once your baby gets older and you move the height of the mattress down, you don't even see the skirt any longer. You do need to make sure that you use a crib bumper inside of the crib as each of the corners have metal brackets that hold the corners in place that a baby could easily get injured from if not careful. by J U 6/6/2012

ANSWER: No, not really. I didn't use one. I don't see how that would be possible because of the drawer underneath-- which is pretty nice. I stored all of our linens for the bed under there, saving us room elsewhere. by J E 6/4/2012
ANSWER: You can use a skirt to conceal the contents of the drawer underneath. But it's definitely not necessary. I used the skirt for awhile, and eventually removed it. by S T 6/4/2012
ANSWER: You do not need a skirt for the crib-- the mattress fits in snug and there isn't room for the skirt. It would also hinder use of the drawer. I don't know about the crib without the drawer option...I would suggest guards for the future teether. My son did a number on the wood with his budding teeth before I had a chance to put the teething guards into place. It's been an excellent crib in out experience. by K G 6/4/2012

This is our second Mercer Crib that we have purchased and absolutely love it. Easy to put together and adjust heights as the baby grows. Also love the drawer underneath, it holds all of our blankets and sheets. Highly recommend this product.
