STAFF ANSWER: The distance between the slats on cribs are regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The regulation is not to exceed 2-3/8" between the slats. QUESTION: I am thinking of buying this for my grand-son 8 mos. old to put in my guest room.I have a pack-play already. At times my lower back gaves me great pain. For that reason, I like that the portable crib has adjustable levels as the baby grows. He is now 18 lbs. & 28 in. long. STAFF ANSWER: Hello Linda,<br /><br />The Alpha Mini Rocking crib is designed to serve your child (or grandchild) from infancy until they are 35" tall OR are able to climb out of the crib unaided. From birth until the child is able to roll over, about three months, use the Mini Rocking Crib (0598) as a cradle with the mattress support at the highest position. Then use the Mini Rocking Crib (0598) as a crib with the mattress support lowered and the casters inserted.<br /><br />Use ONLY mattress / pad provided by manufacturer (which must be at least 36.75 in. long by 23.75 in. wide and not more than 5 in. thick). by Customer S 6/29/2012

The Rocking Crib seems like it will be a great idea for my new little grand daughter. We haven't tried it out yet, but it was easy to put together and it arrived quickly. I love that there are so many levels to adjust the mattress to as she grows. It is certainly big enough to last for a long time. It is good looking and sturdy and rocks easily, just enough to send her off to sleep (I imagine).
