Assemble Your Baby Crib Like a Pro: Need-to-Know Tips Before You Start
Have you ever purchased a piece of furniture that required assembly, then later discovered the instruction manual was like reading a different language?ÿ Even the visual images look like a complex illustration of charades.ÿ But don?t worry, not to panic.ÿ I am going to give you some essential tips to help you assemble your first baby crib without the massive heave of frustration.
When it comes to assembling standard size baby cribs, the major components you will typically see are: the headboard, footboard, rails, mattress support, and crib hardware.ÿ You will need to have a Phillips screwdriver, and if possible, an extra set of hands to read you the instructions.ÿ Here are valuable tips to help you assemble your first baby crib with ease:
1. Inventory Check:Lay out all your crib items, refer to the instruction manual and make sure you have every part needed for assembly.ÿ I like to lay out the pieces, brackets, screws, allen wrench, etc., like how it is shown in the parts diagram.ÿ That way if there is anything missing, you can go out and get it, or contact the manufacturer.
2. Tools:You will need a Phillips screwdriver, an allen wrench that typically comes with the baby crib, and pliers just in case you make a mistake and need to remove a screw or peg.ÿ I would not recommend using a power drill because it will tighten the screw to tight and potentially strip the screws, making reassembly impossible.
3. YouTube-it:If there is a good visual demonstration on how to assemble your type of baby crib, then WATCH IT!ÿ It could help explain many steps that were not as clear as in the instruction manual.
4. Headboard/Footboard:Place the headboard and footboard on the floor and attach the latch brackets to both boards.ÿ The boards should be opposite of each other, in a north-south position, and the brackets should be facing the inside of the crib.ÿ Note: Again, do not tighten screws 100%, just in case you make a mistake and need to remove them.ÿ You can strip the thread if the screw is in too tight.
5. Stationary Rails:Attach rails into headboard and footboard according to instructions.ÿ You will probably need someone to hold the headboard and footboard for you.ÿ Both rails should be stationary because drop-side cribs are not produced anymore due to strangulation hazards.
6. Mattress Support:Attach mattress support according to instructions.ÿ It may already be attached to headboard and footboard.
7. Tighten Screws:If all pieces and hardware are in place, go ahead and tighten all screws.
8. Clean Up:Wipe down the baby crib well from debris and vacuum underneath.
9. Register:There is usually a registration card included where you fill out your personal information and mail it in.ÿ Remember to register your purchase of the baby crib just in case the manufacturer needs to contact you for a crib recall.
