ANSWER: I don't think it's meant to be used as a day bed. It converts into a toddler bed and then later when they're out of that you can purchase rails to convert it into a twin/full sized bed. If you follow the link and click on the tab underneath the photo that says "other views" you can see what the toddler assembly looks like. by Paula S 3/6/2014

ANSWER: Yes! It comes with the toddler transition rail but you can remove that and it's similar to a small daybed, for little toddlers.
